July Newsletter and Building Update
Hello fellow Sno-mads,
Well, since our last newsletter on May 30th, it sure has gotten a lot warmer. It certainly is not the season to be thinking about snowmobiling, or is it? At least for some of us, thinking about sledding in Nopiming Park on a beautiful winter day is the only thing that gets us through these long warm spells of plus 30 degrees Celsius.
It has been a busy summer so far as we continue to work towards building our new groomer shed. The main focus to date has been grading and levelling the groomer shed area. We have a permit to perform the grade work, but do not as yet have the building permit, so we are limited in what we are able to do. Since most of the work is being done with heavy equipment we have not currently needed a lot of volunteer help. The grade work is critical as it is key to the entire project being done correctly. In addition to ensuring the thickened edges have the right depth to hold the weight of the building, we need to ensure that the floor grade has a proper slope to drain water into the sump pit from melting snow. Our building plan includes a washroom and we have just installed the holding tank after receiving that permit late last week.
We anxiously await the building permit, which should come any day now, or at least that’s what we’ve been hoping for the past couple of weeks. Once we have the permit, we will be ordering the concrete, concrete pumper truck, and building material. This is when the fun begins as they say. Most of the work, once the concrete foundation is dry, will be building the exterior and mezzanine walls, and installing roof trusses. Once we have the building permit, we will sending out a request for volunteer help with specific dates and times. The plan is to work every Friday and Saturday morning (weather permitting). We will also be serving lunch for all the volunteers on Saturdays. We could sure use all of the volunteer help we can get, so please try to come out and be part of this important event in our club’s history.
Also, please remember that social distancing rules remain in effect for this project
