Nopiming Sno-mads December 2022 Newsletter
Hello Sno-mads members
We are just a few days away from the holiday season and the Nopiming Sno-mads Executive would like to wish you and your family the very best over the holiday season and a Happy New Year.
Because there is always something to do to make our little piece or paradise a little bit better, we have recently installed a kitchen in the groomer shed that will be used to host of number of events throughout the year. We bought the cabinets on Kijiji for $170 and purchased off the shelf laminate counter tops. Martin Enns and Bob Kasdorf graciously donated their time to install the cabinets, countertop, sink, and faucets. We still need an island to help give us enough space to prepare food, but we will get there eventually.
We already have big plans for our kitchen as we plan to host a fundraising chili meal event of January 21st for anyone wishing to come to Nopiming for a ride. Everyone is welcome to come out and ride our trails and enjoy a bowl of hot chili. You are welcome to donate what you can to help out the club. Even if you don’t snowmobile and want to enjoy a hot bowl of chili with friends or family, then please join us between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. We will have picnic tables setup in the groomer shed. Beverages and snacks can be purchased at the lodge.
Next up is the Nopiming Sno-mads Poker Deby scheduled for February 11, 2023. This year we plan on changing things up a little by serving hot dogs and smokies after the Poker Derby. The event will be held at the Groomer Shed and we will have picnic tables setup inside. More information to come on the Poker Derby so be sure to check the Nopiming Sno-mads website for more information.
Lastly, we have a very special event planned for Saturday February 25th, where the Guenther family will be making their famous Bird Burger recipe for anyone that would like to come out and join us. Several of the club Executive offered to help make the Bird Burger patties, but Jesse would have nothing to do with us helping as he saw right through to the fact that we were only after Blaine’s secret recipe. Oh well, at least we get to enjoy a famous Bird Burger once again. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we will have picnic tables setup in the Groomer shed. Burger prices are TBD and more information to be posted on the Nopiming Sno-mads website.
Just so you know, it isn’t all fun and no work. We have just finished replacing both tracks on the BR 160 and it is ready to roll. In fact, all the groomer equipment has been serviced and is ready to begin groomer operations.
Grooming can be a lonely job, and it would be nice to introduce more club members to the grooming activity. If you would like to arrange a ride-a-long with a groomer operator, please contact Roger Giasson at 204-771-6890.
With the recent replacement of the culvert at Shinewater creek and the build up of the road alongside the beaver dam, we can groom with our class A drag from the Groomer Shed down the Osis trail (Trail 233) all the way to the Winnipeg River and down the Abitibi trail (trail 231) to Mary Jane Lake without any fear of putting our large groomer through bad ice. This is a huge accomplishment that was not possible several years ago.
We have started to groom and sign our trails, but the trails remain closed until we are confident that they are safe to ride. While there is good ice forming on the lakes, there is considerable slush caused by the heavy snow cracking the ice and causing water to sit on top of the ice. Please check the Snoman website for up-to-date trail information on which trails are open and which remain closed.
We have just received our new destination signs and will begin putting them up shortly.
Did you know in Manitoba, all snowmobile operators are encouraged to complete a snowmobile safety education course before operating a snowmobile. All riders in Manitoba who are under the age of 14 must be under direct supervision of an adult when operating. You can sign up for the Manitoba Snowmobile Safety course on the Snoman website. Any one under the age of 18 may be reimbursed by Snoman.
For those of you that have sold and returned your Snoman raffle tickets, thank you for your efforts. We would like to get the remaining sold and unsold raffle tickets by January 31st, 2023. Please contact Rene or Darlene Ritchot at 204-510-1888 to arrange for ticket drop off or pickup.
