VOLUNTEERS ! Trail Clearing Saturday January 8, 2022

Hello Sno-mads,

We are planning to open up the remainder of trail 230 this Saturday (January 8th) and could sure use your help!

Trail 230 is open between the Lodge and Highway 314 (approx. 25 kilometers), and we need to brush, sign, and groom the remaining approximately 35 kilometers going west towards trail 220 that leads to shack 29. We have half of the dozen volunteers already lined up to get the job done, but are looking for another half dozen volunteers to help get it all done in one day. If you can only volunteer one time this year, then this Saturday would be the best time to help out the club.

We plan to head out from the groomer shed at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning and ride up to where trail 230 intersects highway 314. Our 2 BR's will be heading out at around 6:00 AM and will be grooming in front of us. The 1st BR will be used to fill in dips, beaver runs, and creeks, while the 2nd BR will groom with a drag and have a brush bar to help cut willows.

We expect there to be a significant amount of hanging willows on the trail so we are looking for the following:

  • 4 volunteers to brush willows with a chain saw (the club has a couple of chainsaws, but if you can bring your own that would help)

  • 4 volunteers to remove fallen willows from the trail

  • 1 or 2 volunteers to move sleds up the trail for volunteers brushing and removing willows

  • 1 or 2 volunteers to ride behind the 2nd groomer to remove willows from the brush bar and pick up willows left on trail

Some volunteers are planning to trailer their sleds up to the intersection of highway 314 and trail 230 so if this is a better option for you, please plan on the one way trip taking approximately an hour.

Also please bring a lunch and something to drink as it will most likely be a long day. Also having toilet paper and Kleenex with you is always a good idea How long of a day will depend on the number of volunteers we get and the amount of hanging willows.

If you would like any additional information or would like to confirm that you can help out please contact Rene (204-510-1888) or Rob (204-470-4472).

Thank you in advance for your support.
